END OF TIME -- LINUX CLIENT
===========================

RUN IT
    unzip endoftime-linux.zip
    cd endoftime-linux
    sh play.sh

play.sh restores the executable bit itself, so no chmod is needed.

REQUIREMENTS
    64-bit Linux, glibc 2.29+ (Ubuntu 20.04+, Debian 11+, Fedora 32+, Arch).
    Debian/Ubuntu sudo apt install libgl1 libx11-6
    Fedora/RHEL sudo dnf install mesa-libGL libX11
Arch sudo pacman -S libglvnd libx11
Wayland works through XWayland, which is on by default everywhere.

UPDATES ARE MANUAL ON LINUX
The auto patcher is switched off in this build. The Windows patch files are
compiled to 32-bit LuaJIT bytecode, which a 64-bit Linux client cannot load,
so this zip ships plain Lua instead. When the server is patched, download
this zip again and unzip over the top - your settings are kept elsewhere
(see below) and are not touched.

NO SOUND
The official OTCv8 Linux binary was compiled without audio support. The game
runs completely normally, it is just silent, and the sound options do nothing.
    Nothing errors and nothing crashes.

YOUR SETTINGS LIVE IN
    ~/.local/share/end of time/
Note there is NO "OTClientV8" folder in that path on Linux, even though there
is one on Windows (%APPDATA%\OTClientV8\end of time\). PhysFS ignores the
organisation name on Unix and uses only the application name, so the two
    platforms genuinely differ here.
Hotkeys, layout and options survive replacing the game folder.

MOVING SETTINGS OVER FROM WINDOWS
    Copy these into ~/.local/share/end of time/ :
        config.otml options, layout, window setup
        hotkeys_*.otml your hotkey sets
        minimap772.otmm explored map <- the 772 one, NOT minimap.otmm

minimap.otmm is an obsolete name that the current client no longer reads on
either platform. If your Windows profile has both, the 772 file is the live one.

DO NOT COPY data.zip. The client prefers a data.zip found in the settings
directory over the one next to the binary, so a Windows data.zip dropped in
there overrides this package and the client dies during module loading with
"cannot load incompatible bytecode". If that happens, delete
~/.local/share/end of time/data.zip and start again.

Also skip exception.dmp and exception_full.dmp -- Windows crash dumps, often
    hundreds of MB, useless here.

IF IT WILL NOT START, run "sh play.sh" from a terminal and read the error:
"required file not found" -> 32-bit system, or glibc older than 2.29
"libGL.so.1" -> install the packages listed above
"Can t create window" -> no desktop session (plain SSH/tty)
"incompatible bytecode" -> a stray data.zip in your settings folder,
see MOVING SETTINGS above. Check the
"Found work dir at" line the client prints:
it must point at the game folder, not at
                                       ~/.local/share/end of time/
    Otherwise send ~/.local/share/OTClientV8/end of time/end of time.log
